Coordination and Subordination

Coordination and Subordination

Coordination

“Many have expressed their feelings about the liberal arts including Jeffery Scheuer and Jonathon J. Ungar, and they use use their platforms to explain what the liberal arts actually is and why it is so much better than what many are led to believe.”

This sentence emphasizes both how many express their feelings and how Scheuer and Ungar use their platforms. It combines those two clauses.

“Both of these men believe that what makes the liberal arts the liberal arts is the token all encompassing and inclusivity it exhibits, and this belief is correct.”

This sentence is compound because it combines both clauses into one sentence by using “and”. It emphasizes what the men believe and my stance on this.

“The first definition of liberal arts is the broadest and most inclusive definition, and people believe that this is the best definition to give.”

This sentence also utilizes “and” to combine both clauses into one sentence making it compound. It emphasizes the first definition and the idea that many believe thats the best definition.

Subordination

“In Ungar’s article, 7 Major Misperceptions About the Liberal Arts, he states some common misperceptions about the liberal arts, such as that it is focused solely on the arts and therefore will never get you a good job, and then subsequently quashes those misperceptions.”

This sentence is subordination I think but I’m not positive. I believe I am emphasizing the misperceptions. It is a complex sentence because I am joining together separate ideas.

“Once they possess this vast array of tools, it will help them get far in life by allowing them to be able use their skills in a variety of settings within the workplace.”

This sentence I believe is subordination because it shows a relationship of time. It is complex because it joins together the two ideas.
