This story was quite the read. Native Americans are very complex beings. I do not agree with many things that they do however, I can attest to their ability to connect with the land.  When I was captured by them they were able to eat so many things that the earth provided them with. Despite the violence in my town that I witnessed, the natives found a way to nourish me with just things from nature they came about. Perhaps “Earth, Speak” can aid in the understanding of the greatness of God. It was he who provided the natives with the food to keep me alive. It was the natives, however, who knew what to do with that food.

“Earth, Speak” is by far one of the greatest stories I have read all year. It is full of heavy-hitting emotions and hard to talk about struggles. Talty does not shy away from showing the reality of living on a reservation or struggling with one’s faith. I find that it is still somewhat taboo to talk about these trials in contemporary works but Talty does so in such a way that one cannot help but feel for these characters. Some may even be able to relate to the sentiments of David or other characters despite not grappling for the same faith.
